Eastern Cemetery - Portland, Maine

[this is good]
GREAT post! I love visiting both the East and West End cemeteries. The stones in the East End are indeed beautiful reminders of life in early New England.
I can imagine trying to investigate the East End would be really really tough, with all the noise and light pollution around.
I recently visited East End during the day, specifically to obtain some EVP, but came up empty-handed. The West End however, is a whole other story. Something definitely going on there....

I enjoyed your post on the Eastern Cemetery. I am part of a group that advocates for the Eastern Cemetery here in Portland called Spirits Alive. You can find our site at www.spiritsalive.org. The cemetery was officially established in 1668 although settlers from earliest Portland (then called Machigonne and then Falmouth) began it as a boneyard around 1633. The cemetery was spared during the 1866 fire, although I do not know the fate of the North School. There was a school on the site before the brick one you see today. If you would like more information on the cemetery, please see our site or email me! One thing that you probably already know... it's illegal to enter the gates of the Eastern Cemetery after dusk or gain access when the gates are locked. The Western Cemetery does not have locked gates. Oh, and many of those marked graves are likely empty. Happy ghosting!
